New XK8 owner with two issues - Power seats not working and rough shifting
Hello good people,
I just bought an one owner 1996 XK8 with 49,000 miles (83,000 km) on it. While the overall condition is very good, I have two questions:
1) Yesterday the driver's seat was fully adjustable in every position. Today I cannot adjust it to the rear position any more, but it is still possible to move it to the forward position.
From what I read on this forum this could be related to the seat module. Where can I find it and how will I swap with passenger's seat module for testing?
2) While the transmission overall shifts smoothly it's a bit rough when I select the drive geat coming from parking postion. What can I do here?
Thanks for your help.
Chris

The seat modules are under the seats at the front and are secured with two 10mm nuts. You do not have to remove the seats for access.
Unfortunately, the transmission is not going to be as easy. Your description indicates failure of the A-drum, a very common problem on the XK8. Use the search function to pull up many threads on the subject.

The modules are easily accessible if you remove the four bolts (each) which secure the seat frames to the floor. From there, you can tilt the seats back (while still in the car) and access the modules, which are mounted at the front of the seats. The DS has three connectors (the 3rd may be for memory) and the PS has two, both of which disconnect from the back of the modules.

The cables on mine had enough slack to disconnect. That appears to be the exception rather than the rule.
