Default Newbie looking for advice!

Hi,

I would like a couple of things done to my 2001 XKR. main one would be it needs a new headlight after a stone shattered the lens on the motorway, but the dealer quoted £700! I was hoping someone might know a better way? The second is the car phone. the wiring and cradle is in place for an old Nokia. Do you know if it is a massive expensive job to get a more modern phone linked to the car phone system? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike,

It would probably be a good idea to post up your question in the XKR forum there will be more traffic there. I'm sure some of the guys will be able to help you.

Hi Mike-
As Norri said, you will do better in the XK8/XKR forum.

I'll give you your headlight answer here. As for the phone options, a Bluetooth adapter makes the most sense and there are many approaches. I suggest you do some searches and research in the XK8/XKR forum, then post up any specific questions there.

Now for the headlight:

The lens and reflector assembly is a separate part from the rest of the headlight. Once the headlight is out of the car, it just snaps in and out. It can be purchased for about $200 apiece new, much less the the enitre headlight.

Here are the part numbers for the lens/reflector only (about £130 in the UK):
LJA4651BA LH with powerwasher
LJA4650BA RH with powerwasher
LJA4651AA LH no powerwasher
LJA4650AA RH no powerwasher

This thread should help you remove the entire headlight assembly (there are three fasteners):

Once the headlamp assembly is out, gently pry up the tabs separating the lens housing and the body of the headlight (I think there are 2 or 3 on each long side and one on each end). The lens and the housing will then separate, it will be helped automatically by the rubber gasket pressure. Replace the lens with the new gasket it comes with.
