hey guys,

I paid $1000 for the car, but after talking to the previous owner today, i decided to give it back to him, since i didn't write the check. He agreed and totally understood.

After a long talk with him, i found out that the car had been in several wrecks, sat without running for 18 months and with the interior totally wrecked, i decided to part with it... If the car would have mechanically been in ok shape, i would have maybe kept it, but i think it was too far gone.

I did tape up the intake, but no improvement. I also found out that after the car was wrecked, the convertible top pump wasn't put back in the car..... Not very good collision or body work. Not to mention little things like the radio was fried and hadn't worked in over 5 years, and all the tires were out of shape from sitting in the same place for so long.....

I do want to thank each and every one of you for responding. Yall have been very helpful and a pleasure talking to. If i ever get another Jag, i surely know the place to come. Thanks again guys and have a good one.

Brian

The 97 will say "POOR ENGINE PERFORMANCE". That always confused me referencing the message on the later cars until I figured out it was just different that year..

???
I can put my top up or down at speeds upwards of 15 mph. I sure don't have to have the parking brake set to move the top. There is a speed interlock, not sure exactly what it is.

15? I thought the speed interlock was 10mph. It is in my car..tested it. But so many things changed over the generation run maybe or is different in other model years.

10 in mine too, i've confirmed. Maybe the 97s were little higher, then someone bent the converible frame or blew a hydraulic seal. lol, if so, little did they realize, it wasn't the max speed of the vehicle during a open/close cycle they needed to be worrying about.
