I have always believed this too so I never turn my XK8 off until its ran for a few mins, but my MY16 Volvo V70 has a start/stop system. Makes me wonder how these engines will wear over time..

Stop/start doesn't function on cold engines, at least on the ones I've driven.

I also had this problem after running the engine for maybe 10 seconds, something I normally never do. Thanks to the members who posted on this topic I knew what to do. I got the car to my Jaguar technician (non-dealer) and explained the results of my research to him. He has decades of experience but hadn't come across this problem before. He was rather sceptical, but after doing the usual checks of petrol and spark, he took the plugs out. He phoned me to say that I was right, he blew out a sludge of petrol, oil and carbon from each cylinder. He then put a little oil in each cylinder and the engine started, with a lot of smoke.
He then said he had done some research of his own and told me to add a bottle of RISLONE compression repair and ring seal additive to the next oil change and it would solve the nikosil problem.
I hope this helps others who experience this weird problem.

I can't say I ever noticed the Slight engine hesitation when the air conditioning or slow speed-cooling fan operates (2000 MY). (On V8 XJ Series Vehicles between 50 mph and 70 mph (80 - 113 km/h) at steady speed.) on that TSB before. Makes me want to go out and reflash the thing now .

Some engines have oil jets spraying oil on cylinder walls. I don't know if they spray when starter turns crank.
Sometimes I preoil engines after repair before starting them. There is a kit for AC flushing, it works perfect for oiling engines.
Wet compression test is easier.
