My 1998 XK8 is sad....saturday my dash read poor performance as driving home. My tube coming from Valve Cover to the Air intake hose hadn't been tight enough and slipped loose. The next day I started it and there was a steady clicking coming from the LF of the motor which seemed to be from one of the pulleys. Maybe Power Steering Pump?? Not from the inside of motor. No dasn lights, Tach, or any othe gauge were working. wouldn't come out of park either. Idled rough at first but after 15 seconds was fine and reved good. I removed battery ground and charged for 30 hours or so. Charger showed that it was at 100% charge but didn't make any difference.Any ideas?
1. Code Reader - it went into Restricted Performance so there is very likely stored code(s) to help understand why this happened. If this doesn't reveal anything relevant then -
2. Hard reset - clears "learned adaptions" and puts the fuel trims etc back to default settings.
A problem with the Power Steering Pump wouldn't affect the engine running. Not coming out of Park is a gearshift interlock issue. RP would not be a consequence of either of these. As for the clicking noise, if you suspect a fault with any of the "driven" accessories (Alternator, PS Pump, Water Pump) then removing the drive belt and spinning the pulley manually will indicate tighness/loosness of a failing bearing or seizure in each of these components.
