No lights in steering wheel controls

No lights in steering wheel controls
Drove my XK8 last night and noticed that the controls for the cruise control and radio on either side of the horn button were not illuminated. Are they supposed to be, or do we just memorize their positions for driving at night?

They are not illuminated- surprised me when I first bought my car.
