Default No more roof hydraulics!

On the F-type that is Well, I made you look.

After having developed the popular remote top modification for the Jaguar XK8 (X100) and more recently the later model XK (X150), I was beginning to get requests for the same upgrade on the F-type. This lead me to start researching the F-type convertible top in preparation for a future project.

It turns out that all the top hydraulics have been eliminated on the F-type. The top is raised and lowered by a pair of direct drive electric motors. The control electronics and the motors are integrated together, simplifying the wiring also. The top is also latched by an electric motor.

Jaguar started this evolution with the 2006 XK (X150) by moving to an electric motor driven actuator for the roof latch, eliminating the bane of many an XK8 owner. The X150 system was still chock full of hydraulics (though seemingly more reliable), as it not only operated the the top but also the automatic tonneau cover.

The F-type though is a different breed, all electric!

I am not one to say anything is impossible, but they are totally different systems both mechanically and electrically, so it would not be easy.

A wise move indeed by Jaguar. Rube Goldberg wouldn't be happy about it, however....
