From the sound of silence...to the sound of music! It appears a cord (light grey) came loose from the back of the radio. After much fiddling with getting the console removed and finally getting to radio/heater control assembly pulled out of the recessed cavity, I noticed the above mentioned grey cord just lying there. At first I thought it might be a stowed connector for the telephone but fortunately it was labeled and said...."Amp connector for convertibles". So...I plugged it in, hooked up the amp KevinW sent me and voila!! Music. I then re-installed my amp and the system is working fine.

I'm still a bit suspicious though. It's possible the amp connector came loose when I was removing the radio assembly...or perhaps it had worked loose over time. Perhaps the disconnecting and reconnecting of the various plugs created a better contact if corrosion had built up over time. Hard to say...but...for the time being....all is well !!

I'll keep an eye on it and update the group if things change. I do want to thank KevinW for working with me on this and offering his Amp and Radio at reasonable prices. He is a great representative of the caliber of people on this site.

Cheers,

Jim

The sweet sound of a resolution. Now, just avoid those potholes and patches and nothing else gets shaken loose.

hELP, i am having the same problem with a 2004 xj8, I was having a problem with the CDC and the mechanic pull it, we have now lost all sound and the indash radio does not recognise the CDC. Mechanic thinks it is the power amp but I am not so sure.

jIM DID YOU get your system fixed?

Default radio fuse

I looked at the passenger side and I am still not sure what fuse it is.My 1998 xk8 is without volume also. I had gotten the car with a kenwood that worked but I wanted the original radio so I changed it out and it all works but I can't hear those Beatles Yea Yea Yea NO!.

Thanks for the help, wish we lived closer to BBQ and work on the Jags, together.

Thanks, Deano

deano, you've got to trace those ouputs from the OEM radio and make sure they're making it all the way to the amplifier AND the speaker leads are still connected to the amp. More than likely, the kenwood used the internal amp to drive all speakers...there's either new wiring to the speakers or the pathways were hacked, and you'll need to fix 'em.

Is head unit switch correctly set to premium?
