Bit of a mystery..

Cigarette lighter works fine.
I have 4 car / phone chargers. None work.

I'm sure someone figured this one out.

 

Strange, I used a plug in USB adapter in the Cig lighter all the time, works fine.

 

What's the draw from the chargers? I have problems in my 2011 XJ if I connect 2 phones, both stop charging-- it may be some intelligent overdraw protection (?).

My wife's 2015 Buick GS does the same. Phone chargers will not work with USB port, any other items will, cam recorder, etc. Owners guide does say may not work with all devices. The why, not sure... Rich

 

Not all 12v/USB adapters are created equal it seems.
Some phones/mp3 players etc., will only charge from a USB connector if either a 220 ohm resistor is connected between pins 2 & 3, OR both pins 2 & 3 have approx. 2.8 volts on them. Seems some devices won't switch to charge mode until either of these conditions are met.
Looks like some adapters are just wired up for 5V & gnd on pins 1 & 4 only.

 

Problem SOLVED!

Dremel cleaned the contact, and presto!
Works as advertised.

 

They just don't fit and make contact. Sometimes you can giggle or move them around and they will come on.

 

RESOLVED, 2 people responded to ckean the bottom center contact. I charged my Dremel spent 10 seconds cleaning the bottom center and there it is, works fine. Thank you. The lighter looks like it was never used, so I had no reason to think of contact contamination.
