Welome!

Your choice of model years is good as most of the mentioned issues were resolved by then. If you want an older car as a hobby because you like to work on them, then go for it. Otherwise, newer is better all things considered. Read alot of posts and FAQs and get a feel for what you're looking at. That said, I enjoy my older car and it's about as reliable as most of my others so far. Just do the required upgrades before big trouble hits.

Welcome to the forum!

. . . and, hopefully, to the wonderful world of Jaguar. I think you will find a number of Corvette owners here that have or previously had, Corvettes.

If you are looking at an '03 up model you are going to miss all the fun. With the introduction of the 4.2L engine and 6 speed transmission in '03 all the 6 years of field engineering was successfully brought to a conclusion.

To more completely answer your question;

With the '99 model year the AJ26 engine was replaced with the AJ27. For the most part that solved the water pump, loss of compression, and throttle body issues. That left the Nikasil cylinder lining, transmission and tensioners to be addressed in '00, 02 and '03. The other 30 or 40 common problems were also fixed along the line.

So buy a '03 up car and enjoy. Weak front suspensions components and the convertible top hydraulic system were just never fixed.
