Default Not knocking on heavens door.

OK, it starts with a P0332, knock sensor left side on a 2000 XK8. No big deal as the Autozone SU7012 $30 took out the restricted performance and erase took care of the code and MIL or Check Engine Light, what ever you call it.
Apparently that was too easy. Inspection due this month, so I did the drive and coast cycle, idle and drive, took it to the station. Good guys and said they would check before the official reading. Incomplete, so he said just drive it 50 or 60 miles and we will try again. OK.
Drove it to the golf course and played nine, 55 degrees in the middle of January, good time but wanted to wash the car and get better at using my OBDll. Well now it is clean, I can see the fuel and O2 sensor readings, all kinds of stuff I have no idea.
New codes after driving 40 miles, P0302 Misfire in 2 cylinder and P1316, not firing at acceptable level. Duh, if it ain't firing it ain't acceptable.
Again, a erase got rid of them and only 2 incomplete show on State inspection.
Are we having fun yet.
Oh, installed Real Gauge and Steve is one heck of a guy, answers right away and didn't call me dummy one time. All is well, temp gauge is 190 degrees at the first hash mark above middle as info. Oil is reading a bit lower than I like at idle, I may bleed the system again, as it goes right up to almost middle at 1200 RPM's.
My day is almost finished, a couple hours putting in the interior of a Triumph Spitfire GT6 conversion and see what tomorrow brings.

Clearing codes is not a fix! Do a fix.

+1

Clearing all codes isn't going to magically fix this.

The P0302 will return again after 2 consecutive 'trips' unless you rectify the cause. The most frequent cause of this one is a faulty coil but it can be fuel related. Simplest way to start troubleshooting is to switch the coil with one from another cylinder and see if the error code moves too.

P1316 is an associated code and will likely disappear when the cause of the P0302 is rectified.

Thanks guys, I know what I have in store, just haven't drove the car over 10 miles in the last couple of months, busy. I was hoping a plug may have been having a issue.
I will put some miles on it, no mickey mouse fixes, believe me.
Good news the top works great after replacing hoses back in May, first time I put it up since checking the operation.

?? The State Inspection still showed a pass on the emissions, just an incomplete.
I never felt a miss, no RP or MIL, I was just playing with the OBDll and it showed up after going though a bunch of checks.
I maybe should have left well enough alone.
A little travelling music is called for.

PASSED!!!
After checking all I could, wires, connections and just generally looking for anything out of place, nothing was apparent
Drove as close to recommended cycle directions as possible. I got to thinking about it and you would need to park it on a freeway overnight, on a cold winters night, to be able to do this. LOL
Anyway, got it up to 70 MPH on the interstate for a few miles. I was running so good I stopped at the service station and checked the codes and it showed only one P1000 and they said it would pass. So it did and I bought the guy lunch.
It must have been a plug that is a bit iffy, all the idling and checking was just enough to throw a code. Note to self: change plugs on next rainy day.
Now to get the little strip around the light tucked in. I hear it's a b*gger.

Well done Wayne! I know you've put a lot of time into this issue lately. Glad to hear that the annual inspection requirement is now in your rear view mirror....
