Default OBD 2 Scanner for '98 XK8

I'm in Canada driving a '98XK8 that was originally sold in the US. I'm looking to buy an OBD 2 scanner but am concerned that the ones being recommended by friends who have later model year XK8/XKR won't work on my car - despite what the manufacturers' web sites tell me. I'm looking specifically at the iCarsoft i930 and Innova 3100RS or 3130RS. Does anyone have any experience or advice they can share?

Hi Jim. How are things on the Island? I have the icarsoft2 scanner for my '97 and it works fine. Just make sure you order the one specific for Jaguar.

The icarsoft LR-1 also works fine . I’m using it on my ‘02. It costs a little less than the LR-2 . As far as I could tell, the extra features on the icarsoft LR-2 only pertain to cars built way after our X100’s. That was the main factor influencing me to get the LR-1 vs the LR-2.

btw, “LR” = scanner made for the Land Rover and Jaguar models.

PS iCarsoft i930 was the predecessor model before the LR-1 and LR-2

Thank you zray, I really appreciate the detailed advice. Very helpful to a non-techie type like me. Jim

Hi Jim, If you're in town let me know and we can get together for a lunch or dinner. I've never seen another XK8 live I'd love to see yours up close.

Tom, we're planning to stay overnight in Prince George on 16 Aug and we'd be delighted to have dinner with you and compare cars. Everything depends on wild fires and smoke along our route, of course. Jim
