Just an update and help required, contacted the supplier and he insists that my car, XK8, year 2000 is not OBD2 complient, surely it is, as I have read threads relating to these cars being OBD2 complient.

Of course it is OBDII compliant. All cars sold in the US since 1996 are.

Look at the engine buy, somewhere in there there is a sticker that says "Complies with OBDII standards".

Maybe his equipment isn't OBDII?

Make sure you have ignition set to the second position when you connect it. Starting the car isn't necessary... I think

Yes I have a Pro Scan OBDII reader and software and I must tell you it has never worked right from the day I got it. It has a Serious issue with connecting. I should also mention it had the same issues with my other cars it is not just Jaguar and the support has a lot to be desired.

I had a Scan Tool a few years ago that was OBD2 Compliant but would not work with the Jaguar CAN Communications Protocol.

I gave it away and bought a Actron CP9580 which works with the Jaguar

The car's OBD2 compliant but some scanners wrongly claim to be but aren't 100%. Claim your money back.

JagV8, do you have a OBD2 scanner if so what model is it? And was your car built before or after 2000. For the US guys, the person who sold the scanner to me claims that UK cars after 2001 are OBD2 compatable and the US market cars from 1996 were compatable. Paul I am looking at the same scanner you use but with what I'v been told maybe my car is not compatable being a 2000 model.

I find it VERY hard to believe that any 1997 and up OBD2 Compliant Jaguar would vary (in OBD2 Compatibility) depending on the market (Europe, U.S. etc.).

My Actron CP9580 works fine with my (U.S.) 2000 XKR.

It's typical BS from a seller who knows little about what they sell. UK XKs like yours are OBD2 compliant (as are all S-Types and I believe X-Types). The law (of England and Wales) didn't require it till 2000 (maybe 2001) but many makes were compliant before then e.g. Fiesta from 1996 if not earlier (have tested one).

However, various scanners are more or less junk, laws not withstanding

If you're in UK quote Sale of Goods Act and get your money back. They've not a leg to stand on.

Guy insists scanner was listed for cars 2001 and later (UK) so will not take it back. Does anyone in the UK have a 1996 to 2000 reg car and own a scanner if so what make is it. Thanks.

Hi dpm.

I have a 1997 XK8. I purchased "Torque" downloaded to my android phone and a cheap Chinese Bluetooth interface - it didn't work ! So ..... spent a few more beer tokens on a PLX Kiwi Bluetooth interface (for "Torque") and it's brilliant. Obviously, it will only read OBD2 data, so ABS / gearbox / Jaguar "specific" codes are unavailable, but for basic diagnostics, it's very good. Will reset fault codes, there's GPS track mapping, "real-time" gauges including fuel trims, engine temperature etc, plus fun-stuff like 0-60 times and Horsepower / Torque.
So .......... YES .......... your car is OBDll compliant and I can't see why you can't get your money back. Not the cheapest, but can recommend the PLX/Kiwi kit + Android Torque. Not sure if it's available for iPhone - suspect not.

I have a cheap ELM327 bluetooth adaptor and use Torque on an Android phone. Works just fine (Jag. specific codes excepted) on my 1998 coupe

+1 on Paul's comment. I should have checked earlier, but JTIS lists codes for 1997 XK8 onward, and specifically mentions 'OBDII'. Can't imagine why..
