Default Oil Change

I bought my 01 XK8 11 months ago from a Jag dealer who did a maintenance inspection, state inspection and oil change (synthetic). I have since moved and the nearest Jag dealer is a big hassle of a drive away. Is it worth taking it to a Jag dealer for an oil change/state inspection rather than using a local Oil and Lube garage?

Hi Charlie,

Based on your profile, it looks like Jaguar Services Colvin Automotive is your nearest dealer. I would recommend going there because most dealers will wash your car while your car is in for service. That gives you a chance to ogle the latest kittys. You can go to a place like Jiffy Lube, but more often than not, they won't have the oil filter you need. There may be a foreign car repair place in Bastrop you can try, but mostly likely they cater to rice burners and won't have the filter either. By the way, Route 45 looks like a good place to air out your XK8

Colvin is an independent. The dealer in Austin is Charles Maund Jaguar. I would go to any oil change place. You may want to call ahead and insure they have the filter. Or, you could call down here to Motorcars and we could ship one to you. That way you can just take it in with you.

Ken's place is a great company to get any dealer issued part, for probably 40% less than dealer pricing. Good guy to know in a pinch if you need something quick. He even has a salvage yard that is a good source of used parts, depending on the year and model your looking for.

I have been taking my xk to the valvoline place down the street for 2 years. The very first time I went, I had to go next door to autozone to buy the oil filter, but after that day, he told me he ordered a case of filters, especially for me. They don't always understand the jag systems, but they can do oil changes, verify tire pressures, and check my coolant properties as well as any others. A full synthetic oil change runs me about $75 a visit. Dealer is there for more serious issues.
