Default oil fill question - RESOLVED

Did oil change, put in 5 quarts oil, and dipstick shows full. Car sits slightly downhill. Also did oil filter. I have NNE dipstick. Should I put in the other 1.9 quarts or is it possible there's still oil in sump. I'd let it drain for about 10 minutes. I changed the oil a year ago, but don't recall this discrepancy. VIN# is SAJGX2042XC0386..

The oil filter will hold oil, and keep the upper passages from draining after it's been run. Better to be over than under. Add a quart, then find a place that's level to check.

The manual for my MY says it takes 6 qts.

If you drained it all out, then I'd put in whatever your manual says that it holds, then find a flat place to check it, but unless someone changed the oil pan or something (very unlikely) I'd go along with what the manual says.

A little more may be better than not enough, but I also hear the overfilling can cause problems with frothing and so forth. Once again, I'd go along with what the manual says.

There's a long thread about oil levels somewhere (search may help) but basically there should be no problem with an additional quart, but why not check it somewhere level first?

Did you raise the rear of the vehicle to drain all the oil? With the drain plug being at the front corner, there will be some residual oil left in if you don't do this.

I always check oil level in my garage which is on the flat. My drive has a slight incline so I've just checked to see what difference this makes to the reading. Amazingly, it's almost one quarter of an inch on the dipstick!

Default Resolved!

Took you'r suggestions. I added 1 quart and then ran car to operating temperature. Then on level ground I checked the oil level, and it read a quart low. Topped it off, for a total of 6.9 quarts (as/per manuel). All is well again. I thought maybe I needed the newer dipstick but I don't. Thanks for you'r suggestions!!!

Thanks for posting the successful resolution. I've added 'RESOLVED' to your thread title to help anyone searching the forum for the same issue in future.
