I don’t know of an adjustment for the idle per se, only the slack adjustment. Others more knowledgeable than I should chime in.

Sounds like you indeed adjusted in the correct direction. I am surprised that the idle is lower. I would have expected a higher idle if any idle change at all.
Is the cable physically tighter now?
