Oil pressure fluctuations
Hi folks, 1988 XJ40 with the 3.6 here. When sitting in traffic, particularly pointed downhill I will see the oil pressure gauge drop down to zero at times, which is pretty frightening. Then when I get moving the oil pressure will bounce right back up where it belongs. Oil level is good, just had the oil changed and I just checked the level again.
Sensor problems, natural fluctuations, oil starvation to the sensor when sitting, any ideas what is going on? I really don't like seeing my oil pressure drop since I don't need a blown engine.

No need to worry, this is a well known issue with the sender unit ..your oil pressure is probably just fine.

That is super helpful, and I guess it will be my next project. I actually don't mind working on these sorts of things as long as the car runs okay. It is thirty years old, after all.
Good luck
