The EOTS (Engine Oil Temperature Switch) is installed at the right front of the structural sump adjacent to the pressure switch. (see item 8)

It indicates to the ECM (Engine Control Module) the temperature of the engine oil.

I can't find it in the Parts Catalogue or listed by any aftermarket suppliers. This has to be the only part on a Jaguar that never fails!

Here's a better drawing:

Now the least you can do is have a look at yours and see if there's a P/N stamped on it.

Derek,

That Oil Temperature Sensor is for the early 2007MY XK 4.2 to VIN B10073 as shown in the Jaguar Parts Catalogue:

(click on the image to enlarge it)

There is no equivalent sensor listed for the 1996/2006MY XK8/XKR - only the Oil Pressure Switch:

Graham

It is the same oil temperature sensor that has been fitted to all the 4.0 and 4.2 X100 models. (Basically the same engine as yours! as long as your VIN is lower than B10073)

It is also the same sensor that has been fitted to the coolant temperature (X100) after VIN 031303 when it changed from M12 to M18 fitment.

All that changed with the 4.2 was the part number, but still the same part/fit. For the 4.2 it is only listed once as temperature sensor, no position information.

So basically LRA1600AA superseded by XR832403 will fit oil sensors from VIN 031303 X100 to B10073 X150

Well as long as the parts lists are correct, yes. I take it that you have bought the Ebay one !? as is now sold.

Default Can't Locate X-Type EOT Sensor

I can't find the EOT sensor on my 2005 X-Type. Must you remove the oil filter or oil filter housing assembly to reveal the sensor?

This thread is on the XK8/XKR section of the Forum. You need the X Type section.

On your engine the oil pressure and temperature sensors are just below where the oil dipstick goes into the crankcase

Thanks; that helped me to locate it . I still can't see it, but I can barely see the top of the Oil Pressure Sensor next to it when looking from under the car. Like you described, it's right next to the dip stick tube, as depicted in the diagram below.

It looks like I'd need to remove either the oil filter or generator to get to it.

Graham, et al,
Has anyone had a failed OT Sensor result in a )197 code, and a non-re-setable CEL?
THat seems to be the problem I have now.

Yes and No..
Yes i had an issue with P0196 code keep coming up and putting the CEL light on..
No, as i could re-set the CEL,,, but it would come back frequently.

EOT code's....................................

P0195..sensor malfunction
P0196..sensor range/performance
P0197..sensor low
P0198..sensor high
P0199..sensor intermittent

My understanding of P0196 is the ECM/ECU expects to see some value between the ECT and EOT sensor,s
and if the value is out of range then up pops P0196
This is my understanding and could be WRONG

I dont know if a failing ECT would cause a EOT code ? (P0196)

May be...unplug the EOT and ECT and spray some electrical cleaner on the contacts and see if that helps first...

SORRY i missed out the code you are getting P0197 ...(dont know whats going on in my head)
Also corrected my abbreviation CTS to the correct ECT.

The ECM applies 5v to the sensor and monitors the voltage across the pins to detect varying resistance.
Giving the pins and connector a good clean may help (or not)
Check ECM is sending 5v to the EOT

Sorry for post 16 that was a total " F*** UP " and no help to your P0197 (been back in and edited)

Thx for info/update. I will be checking all this as soon as I get the car back from Jag Dealer. THe Cov-19 virus situation has messed all up here. Local authorities are threatening to put a "Stay at home ban" on all in the county. MMy XK may be held hostage by the virus.
Looks like the Forum may soon be the only 'Repair Shop' available. "Virtual Repairs". I think we are ahead of the curve on this.
