Default old tensioners

I have 53k on a 97 XK8. I think it is time to replace the timing chain tensioners. What special tools do I need to compete the job?

Just the search button. I think this has been covered once or twice.

Default Which tensioners are you referring to?

Cider,

Which chain tensioners are you referring to? Primary, secondary or both?

if it’s the secondary only, no special tools required using the zip tie method. Just take off cam covers and you’ll see the top tensioners. Easy job - just use a zip tie to secure the chain to the sprocket to keep timing as you change these tensioners.

For the primary chain tensioners, it’s a major front engine rebuild job. Stu46h has the most recent thread detailing the job with excellent photos. Very specific tools needed. See post #10 for the tools. Link below

Good luck. For me, this is top of the home car DIY achievement! Extremely satisfying when you ace these types of jobs

Thanks for the info. Not sure if I would do the primary tensioners myself or farm it out. I only have 53k on it now.
