Omg! NO! Mistaken car!!
I can't believe my stunning 2002 black on black XK8 has been mistaken twice as a convertible Sebring!!
REALLY?!?!?!?!??!?!
I had just installed my black mesh grille and had two people actually ask me what year my Sebring was!!!!
I'm now rethinking the black on black. Maybe a stainless grille. Or maybe install the badge on the black mesh when I Have the nose repainted and fill the original badge holes.

If they can't tell a Jag medallion from a Dodge (dog w/o g) just laugh an tell them it's Korean or something. Some people are just stupid ( which cannot be fixed ) and others are just trying to get your goat. Installing the new badge on the grille would be the best.
I even found a photo of one with a mesh grille and the Chrysler winged badge moved to the grille. UGH!!!!!!!!!
The confusion is at least slightly plausible...

Before I found I could afford an XK8, I used to think the Sebring was a pretty good looking car. It was only once I got really interested in the XKs that I realized why I thought that. The similarity seems too strong to be mere coincidence.
Howdy Folks:
Yes, in the 70's, I would make straight face comments about a new Merc as being one of those "New Ford Granadas" (Ford advertised comparatively) just trying to get the owner's "goat".
Looking back, it was a cruel thing to do.

Had it happen to me last week. Was parked at a granite yard and the sales woman asked me what year my Chrysler was. I find the rear view from a distance is similar, even side profile, but not nearly as sensuous.
There's allways worse: When I showed some pictures of my XK8 to some colleagues, one of them thought he recognised the Skoda emblem;
And I have to agree, from a distance...
Anyway, I took him for a ride, and he's no longer a noob, is even contemplating buying his own...!
BTW nothing wrong with Chrysler imho, I have a Grand Voyager for the family

Just laugh.
The funniest one I can remember happened to a buddy of mine in the early '80s (who had an ego bigger than Texas). He had a Pantera and someone mistook it and complimented him on his Pontiac Fiero! He was crushed! The resemblance was about like the Jag vs Sebring.

I have noted the resemblance of the 'vert XK to a 'vert Sebring too... I kinda mentally slap myself every time I do so!
On the other hand, with my coupe, I get the "What IS that?" or "That's a cool Aston.... or.... ummm Wait, that's a Jag isn't it?" comment regularly.
Love the smiles - The only other car I've ever owned that received a similar amount of "Nice car!" nods was a 1970 Plymouth 'Cuda.
Now... Who would have ever imagined a $4000 neat-o Plymouth would cost $85,000 and a $85,000 neat-o Jag would cost less than $20,000???

Since getting her 2006 XK8 in early February 2012, here are the marques my wife has heard during the frequent "Is that a ....?" question at gas stations, restaurants, shopping malls, client offices, etc. :
1. Maserati?
2. Ferrari?
3. Aston Martin?
4. Thunderbird?
5. Sebring?
6. RX8?
7. Crossfire?
8. Lotus?
9. Lamborghini?
And her all-time favorite:
10. DeLorean painted white?

Well, I have had two Sebring convertibles. The 1st generation(96-99) is much better looking than the latter one(00 -06). Later models look like to me they were trying to copy an Audi look. I don't see how they look like an XK8 other than they are convertibles and have two doors.
However, I had one guy look at a photo of ours and thought it was a Mazda Miata! Some people just don't know.

I think the XK looks far closer to a Miata... they actually share very similar styling, except the Miata is like a midget version of the XK. Anyone mistaking an XK for a Sebring must be old and have bad eyesight.
Most of the people who come up to me know it's a Jag or ask me what it is.
