In / Out steering wheel Motor access?
Hi, Despite searching I can't seem to find instructions on how to access the in/out motor, can anyone help?
I found great tilt motor instructions, that went well. I wonder if I have to remove the instrument cluster to access this motor. I am surprised to see that my replacement motor does not have any mounting holes on it like the tilt motor does.
Please let me know what you think.
Thanks,

Here is a link to the part about dropping the steering column and replacing the cable. It does not discuss removing the steering wheel and air bag.

Don't know the price of the OEM replacement cable but it was not available a few years ago and Coventry West had some made up due to this being a very common problem with both the XK8/R and XJ8/R.

Thanks Zecrew, I saw that the name is reach motor about 3am this morning. Still no luck on instructions but I'll figure it out.
Test point, thanks for the link. I have a good cable, just hoping a reach motor replacement will all of a sudden enable the tilt switch functions on the steering wheel (yeah good luck right ).
My auto function works, my memory position is able to make it reach and tilt. Just can't get the switch to work.
I appreciate the input guys.

Well if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck . . . It looks like my tilt switch is the culprit! The darn thing tested OK a month ago. Since it is a swinging problem (happens sometimes) I am going to dive it and open the swithc up I'll keep you posted.
Here's some more good info for future reference: When you look at the wires you will see 4 attached to the Tilt switch, These function as two seperage pairs.
One pair (wires right next to each other) is auto movement on / off.
The other pair is (wire 1 ) Battery; (wire 2) voltage out to the Body Processor Module. The "voltage out" refers to the voltage value after the battery is switched through one of the switch's internal resistors. One of 4 resistors depending on the chosen direction(See Daniel's diagram above for the resitor values 100, 270, 470 and 820 ohms as I recall).
I got this from the 1998 XK8 Electric circuit manual:
The voltage you will read for Up movment = 10.1 volts
Down movement = 12.1 volts
Retract 8.5 volts
Extend 6.8 volts
I'm not going to open my switch until I have a backup plan(spare switch source) mapped out. It should be simple, but the way things are going lately I can imagine around dozen springs shooting out as I pry it open. It's been one of those days.
I will keep you posted with what I find once I get into the switch.
