My fuel pump went out with 88k miles on the Cat. My mechanic said the fuel pump had deformed hose connectors, meaning the fuel pump has been over heating. He said not to let your fuel level get below 1/4 full, because the fuel is used to keep the fuel pump cool.

 

You should also change the fuel filter every 60,000 miles or so. Clogged fuel filters require the fuel pump to work harder....

 

The fuel pump is a combo unit that also has a filter and the pressure regulator, but there is an inline filter under the rocker panel and that was changed also.

If you change your fuel pump, get a good replacement. I got one from Rock Auto with bare wires hanging out of it and threw it in the trash.
Then I got one from NAPA that cost five times as much but came with a wire harness adapter that made it a plug in to the wire harness.
This is one of those jobs where you want the best material because you don't want do do it again.

 

I let my Jaguar mechanic purchase the fuel pump. I looked at RockAuto and could not find one for my model. RockAuto May have them for older Jaguars, but not a 2004 XKR.
