Calling those with the ZF5HP24 Trans!!
Hello Chaps,
I've just dropped in from the X308 forum where we've got a great thread and idea developing, which may be of some benefit to yourselves. The ZF5HP24 transmission has long been a curse on the N/A cars, they're not the best transmission to begin with and servicing it is a task of ridiculous complication. We're currently working on an idea to create our own version of a transmission dipstick retrofit for the car, we need as many interested folk involved as possible, this is a community effort that will have longtime benefits for all those involved if we are able to get a positive outcome!
So if you're interested, please follow the link below and chime in! Looking forward to hearing from you! Stu.

thank you. i placed an order for the meruosport dipstick on November 11th. will let you know when i receive it.
on another note, i upgraded to the redesigned A-drum before a failure at 89K USA miles. all of the clutch packs and everything else in the unit remained stock. the fluid in the transmission was changed after 60K miles and again when the A-drum was replaced which was of course a very thorough change due to emptying the converter. the transmission works very well. it could be a nice test case to see if it ever fails for other reasons outside of expected wear.
i strongly advise anyone to upgrade the A-drum prior to failure as it is very easy to do.

Good news, just received a notice from the seller, Meruosport, that the dipstick kit is on its way with an apology for the delay. They included tracking information. I was considering contacting my payment processor to dispute the charge a few days ago. funny how things work out.
If anyone is interested in studying the product before installation, let's discuss details.

Thank you for the update and look forward to some of your observations on quality and all around usefulness.
What was the final total? Been involved in a few fluid changes and if it works could save big money in paper towels and kitty liter. LOL
Not to mention the waste of expensive fluid.

Hello all, I was certainly surprised when I got back to the house today and saw a package on the front porch from Meurosport!?! I initially ordered this in AUGUST of 2018!?! I had thought that AMEX had canceled it months ago but obviously not.
Stoked that the order got filled this far down the road, that it came seemingly complete and all but wow, 10 months?
It does look very nice and it seems all the pieces are here. I will try to install over the weekend and let you all know.

Tom,
Can you post the PDF installation instructions here please. The link below on your website doesn't appear to work.

So I understand,,, and maybe someone can help me out,,, but the "stick" measures fluid in the tube, measuring before the 90 that turns into the filler plug??? I'm guessing the tube must fill to a certain amount UP it's length,,, and that's where the calibrated end of the stick finds it for it's reading???
If not,,, how does it work with that 90degree bend? And,,, if it entered the pan after taking that bend it would basically be positioned nearly straight - horizontal.
I'm considering this but it's a damn lot O money for something that might not prove reliable over a long stretch of time. Something feels,,, oft...
Anyone have an idea?

Hey Man! Thanks for that link! I had seen it before but didn't pay attention as I should. Pictures worth 1000words and I think the one that shows what is contained in the "kit" answered my question.
It looks like, as opposed to filling thru the fill plug until fluid at operating temp will begin to dribble at full, the dipstick reader will allow (require) us to fill the trans slightly more - until the fluid starts to run up the tube - where a reading can be had.
It's pretty clear that the cabled reader is quite short looking at the photo. NOT going down, around that 90, and into the pan - or even close.. It appears to be terminating in the vertical-ish section of the down tube. Makes sense.
Hmmm,,, in that, it's not a super accurate set up (certainly accurate enough). Just one that allows us to know that the fluid level is just OVER the fill point... The fill one would get IF doing it the "ol fashioned way",,, and that now the pan is full enough to have fluid UP and into the tube. I would guess that this set up would make filling require less than one full additional quart to get a good "reading"....?
Is my thinking messy???
If that's the case it wouldn't be hard to reproduce something like this for 30bucks or so.
What say ya...?
