Default Oxygen sensor. Same or different ?

Being a kind of 7Ps person I am looking into oxygen sensors should the day come ....The advertising is confusing.
Front sensor /fitment rear WTF does that mean? prices from £10 to £100. Are the 4 the same or two pairs of two?
Amazon quotes two for £20 being
  • OEM Reference Number : 2R839G444AC, C2C1238, C2C8442, LNE1682BB, C2S38497, LNE1682BC C2C7360, C2C25956, 2R839G444AC
So someone with knowledge on this give me the low down.

There are 4 oxygen sensors. 2 before catalytic converters (often called upstream) and 2 after (downstream) That means it is two pairs of two.
I strongly suggest you go for the OEM Denso brand. Some cheap generic will just give you trouble.

So if you have a V6 or a V-8, you have two exhaust pipes coming off the engine. One for bank one and one for bank two. On each bank, you have a catalytic converter. You will have one 02 sensor in front of the catalytic converter between the catalytic converter and the engine and then a second O2 sensor either in the center of the catalytic converter or after the catalytic converter, but you normally have them in the center of the cat on Jaguars

The two o2 sensors are different and will have different connectors as well as different connector colors. For example, one may be white and one may be grey. They cannot be swapped. You can swap them from side to side (bank to bank) but they need to be put in the same position they came from so the front O2 sensor must go to the front on the other bank if you’re going to swap them, but you can’t swap a front O2 sensor for a rear O2 sensor. They are different types of O2 sensors.

Also, remember the front sensors are wideband sensors (they detect oxygen over a wider range of concentrations), and the rear sensors are the older lambda style (they only detect oxygen accurately around stochiometric). The control circuit for measurement is also completely different. They are not interchangeable. As already pointed out, Denso sensors have proven pretty reliable.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

There are no rear/lower/downstream sensors on the early non-US spec XK8s. Just a blank boss in the cat.

Heritage shows LJA1682AE as the part # for the uppers, but the price is....

My 98 doesn't have them either. Things changed with the arrival of the AJ27 motor for MY99 (XK8)

I should have been more specific.

Best price I could find was £55 and the worst £1000 Most seem to be about £100.
So it seems if you have a single o2 sensor then its a different number to the top one on a double 02 sensor system.

Ridiculous. Was he wearing a long black coat & face mask?

Even Heritage is only about 1/4 of that:
