Yes, that's correct. Pin 1 is bottom left, pin 16 top right. As a test you should have ground on the two middle pins on the left column and +12v on the top right pin (16).

Morning Don,

I can't find a date associated with that second document. But would the emission laws have anything to do with the drive cycle needed to reset the monitors?

Hi Dibbit,

I'm getting 60 ohms across those pins.

As emissions laws change, automakers must adapt their systems and programming, possibly necessitating different drive cycles, so the answer to your question is, "probably yes."

Hi Baxter,

Thank you for the confirmation. Now I just have to figure out why I'm getting the P1799 and P1797 codes. I've removed and cleaned the connector plugs but still get the codes.

Don,

Those are the only 2 documents I can find that tell me what the "drive cycle" is to clear the Catalyst monitor. If you are aware of any other document or drive cycle please let me know. I'm willing to try anything at this point to clear this thing and get it to a smog station after that.

Y2KJag,

Sorry, forgot to label them. The columns are just the spread for the numbers. I ran the test for a minute so those are the high and low numbers where there were high and lows.

Makes sense. I have similar and I think that's why our monitors aren't setting. The voltage fluctuates too much, making it appear to the computer that the cat isn't hot enough.

I wonder if they’re fluctuating so much because of a vaccum leak? That check will have to wait until tomorrow. Babysitting 3 grandkids today.

Joe,

I know you have tried everything under the sun. I know you have a 4.0 car while my wife has a 4.2 car. Nevertheless, following is how I have cleared the Catalyst monitor in her car multiple times since September 2020:

- Fuel tank level must be between 30% and 85%.
- Start engine and bring it up to normal temperature.
- With the transmission in Park or Neutral, hold engine speed at 2,500 rpm for 5 minutes.
- Drive the car ensuring that speed exceeds 10 mph and engine speed exceeds 1,500 rpm.
- Do this for at least 3 minutes.

I hope this will work for you. You never know until you try....

Hi Jon,

At this point I’m willing to try barking at the moon to get these monitors to clear.

Success!!!

Not to be a nag, but it also helps if you add your engine details. In your case, it would probably be 4.0L AJ27 V8.

Yes, that is as it should be, so no obvious problems there. At this point I think you perhaps need to try driving the car again to see if you can get the monitor to set.

Thank you Dibbit. If that number is good any idea why I'm still getting the P1797 and P1799? I've cleaned the plugs at the TCM, the ABS and the round one on the transmission. The transmission one was the only one that seemed dirty. I sprayed them all with contact cleaner.

It's probably going to be Saturday before I can for for a drive and try all 4 of the drive cycles that I've either found or been furnished that are supposed to clear the CAT monitor. We'll see what happens.

Now if I can get the CAT monitor or the P1797 and P1799 codes corrected I will be a happy camper. 😊
