Default Part # for rear view mirror

I'm looking for help identifying the right part number for my rear view mirror. It has autodimming, compass, automatic headlights, and rain sensing wipers. There is something wrong with the wiring inside. Adjusting the mirror, or even a rough bump in the road can make the the headlights go off (only in the automatic setting). Wiggle the mirror and the lights come back on. I went to the parts department of the nearest dealer and using the VIN, they gave me a choice of two parts:
HJA3121BA which has a white plug with 4 wires, or
HNC3133AB which has a yellow plug with 6 wires.

My mirror has a black plug with 5 wires. Poking around on the internet I came up with a part # C2P1823, which looked like it might be right from the pictures.

Has anyone had experience with this? Before I order a super pricey mirror, I want to be sure of getting the right one.

As I recall, the auto headlight wiring is that grey looking (or is it white/blue?) wire at the top of your first photo. There's another two pin plug up in there that could be at fault.

Before going for a high dollar replacement give these guys a call. Mine was overhauled and returned for a little over $100.00.

I actually *did* buy the wrong mirror on eBay - it looks exactly like yours, but does not fit my 2001 convertible.

If you'd like to purchase it from me - I paid $99 for it and would love to recoup my money.

I'm still without a replacement for mine :-(

The seller says it will fit your car. You can always message him to make sure and ask if you can return it if it doesn't

I just went through this myself with my 2005 XK8 in January. I had ALL THE SAME symptoms that you describe. Generally, the parts places will ask for the VIN # and should be able to confirm the correct mirror. I presume the different # suggestions relate to the compass/non-compass mirrors. The wires and colors are probably necessary when buying a used mirror. The mirror I bought was the C2P1823 you mentioned, and it has the same features and functions that you refer to in your post. I bought it from Steve at info@welshent.com for 483.68 and it works perfectly. I also priced it with frank.vierira@sngbarratt.com and he was a little less, but Steve had it in stock and I was fed up with the problem. To save you some trouble, I had read a post about a place in Michigan that repaired the mirrors and I spent some time fiddling with that lead. In the end, they fix the problem of the "leaky" mirror where the fluid that controls the day/night function is defective. They were not set up to repair "our" problem, so that was a dead end.
A little soap box: After I got the mirror fixed, I had the Daytime running light function (Canada Specs.) hooked up. ($163.00 at Jaguar) Now people can see my little car at anytime and in any lighting condition. It's a great safety idea, from my point of view. Tom :-)

Thanks Jimborino and Thomas L.

My original one is working at the moment. I opened took it off and taped some of the wires together to stabilize them from movement and I have driven the car twice at night without a problem. We'll see how long that lasts. I have ordered a used one on line and am awaiting arrival. I'll keep it as a spare and hope it works.

I'm interested to learn that this quirk is not limited to me. It seems like they tried to wire to many features through the mirror. It feels like such a Jaguar cliché to turn the headlights on and off by driving over a bump or tapping on the rearview mirror!
