Default passenger window not working

Hi I have a 1997 XK8 convertible 90000miles

I left the side lights/door open and drained the battery and have recharged it.
The car starts OK but I got the passenger door open message.Opened and closed the door but it wouldn't clear.
The windows needed resetting and the drivers side was OK but the passenger side wouldn't work.(would'nt go up or down)
When I opened the passenger door the window dropped down about 2 inches.Close the door and open it and it drops again so I now have a warning message that the door is open but in reality the window is open and I cant close it.
The battery is at 12.5v. I have had the engine running when I reset the windows.
Any help appreciated
Regards

John

John,

You obviously know how to reset the window limit switches as you've successfully reset the driver's door window. The driver's door switchpack is a known but not regular issue. Have you tried operating the passenger window directly from its own switch? If this doesn't work either, the next check is the integrity of the harness into the door.

The 'Door Open' message is triggered by a micro switch in the Door latch assembly which is a regular fault. Check this link for information:

HOW TO: Remove and Replace the Door Latch (Video)FAQ - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

There's a link in Post #1 there to Reverend Sam's excellent video on Door Latch removal. There's also other relevant threads in the FAQ's at the top of the tech section.

+1 on Grahams suggestions, but before diving into the door, first try one simple thing:

Remove the negative battery terminal for 30 seconds, then reconnect it and reset the windows and see if the problem clears up. Try it a few times if it does not work the first time.
