Default Passenger window will not close fully RESOLVED

First of all, I want to thank the folks on this forum. As with out this forum, owning our 2002 XK8 would not be as thrilling for my wife. You folks have helped solve issues on more than one occasion keeping us away from the dealership.

With this said, I am hopeful for another quick fi for my wife's baby. The passenger side from window all of a sudden stop short of a full closure by 3-4 inches. I tried letting the window down and holding the bottom down for a few seconds. But, this does not reset the window.

Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Jamie

To confirm, with the door closed you cannot get the window to go up all the way using the switch?

Does it just stop no unusual noise or visual miss alinement?

Thank for a great question. The motor does sound as if in a bind just before the window stops moving upward. The front of the window also appears to start slowing down before the rear portion of the window does. I make me wonder if the window is somehow binding on the front rail.

Any experience with these symptoms?

Jamie

I have no experience with this issue but the door card is easily removed and all window tracks and adjustments are easily reached. Would be worth an hour of troubleshooting to take a look. See links below for Rev SAMs how to videos:

Good luck

There is also this thread (linked in the Sticky):

It has the JTIS procedure, which looks intimidating but isn't really that bad.

Can you put the window up with the door open? If you can, then it's probably the front or rear pitch adjustment causing it to dig into the seal.

If you can't raise it even with the door open, it might be the height stop.

The opening of the door does not effect the window operation. Still does not close completely.

Thanks for the information.

Jamie, this may describe a problem I encountered on an 1998. If so the bolt in the above pictures is lloose causing mis alignment. Jamie forcing the window with the windor motor can break the glass -happened to me. Good luck. John

Thank you and others for the valuable information. The wife is heading to Florida this week and I will have time to pull the door panel off to check this out. I will post up once I have the panel off.

Did you also do the same thing while raising the window? You need to do both to reset the windows.

I tried holding the up button to reset the window with no luck. I will be diving into the door panel in the next couple of days. I hope to find a loose bolt or something simple once I get it opened up.

The 10mm nut/bolt closer to the door latch was loose. It's original location was easy to see in the slotted opening. I moved the bolt back into position tightened it down. Once I confirm the window was operating correctly, I then went back and applied Loctite to the one 10mm nut/bolt and to the two phillips screws.

Thanks to the members of this forum, the window is fixed. Now, I still have to tackle the hazard button (sticking) issue. Again, the forum has provided me with enough information to get me started.
