Default Pattern XK8 front shock mounts in the UK?

I'm collecting the parts for a full suspension rebuild and I'm pretty sure the front shock top mounts have collapsed, does anyone know where I could find a couple in the UK? I would prefer pattern ones as they're £60 each as opposed to £120 for the genuine Jaguar ones. Everywhere I've tried is out of stock.
Or should I just rebuild mine do you think?
Part number: MJA2170BD

Bill,

While not UK based, I ordered a pair for my XK8 from PartsGeek.com. I think they were just a tick over $100.00 each, and they were exactly like the factory mounts I replaced, save for being much more affordable. I believe that others on the forum have purchased them from PartsGeek and have been very satisfied with the outcome. I can't imagine shipping to the UK being too exorbitant, given what you're saving over the price of the factory bits. Good luck with your rebuild!

Thanks a lot for the tip, but they're out of stock too.

You may want to give them a call on their 800 number. They were showing out of stock one minute, then they suddenly had 25 of them in stock, then they were sold out in the next minute. Not sure their online accounting is very accurate.

I've sent them an email, though in my experience importing things from the States is both slow and expensive. The customs here won't release things until import tax has been paid and it take ages. Yet I've ordered things from lots of other countries including China and the goods arrive in no time and without a blackmail letter arriving first. So much for the 'special' relationship we're always being told about.

I am also waiting on parts geek to get the shock mounts back in stock. I sent them an email about when they might have them available and received a standard "we restock our inventory every 1-2 weeks" reply.

Keep watching, they will have them eventually. Just please do not buy the last one before I get a pair.

SNG Barratt UK did have them last I checked, although the price is higher.

I've found them listed at £60 +VAT but this site seems to actually have them in stock.

We only supply the genuine version of these mounts currently, which unfortunately are quite expensive in comparison to pattern parts. We are looking into alternative supply for the near future however. Will keep you updated...

No one seems to have any pattern mounts in stock, but I found polyurethane rebuild kits in the States which presumably will last longer than rubber anyway.

The poly mounts will last longer, but those on the forum who have used them say they are not worth the trouble for the difference in price. Difficult for the DIYer to install.

I ordered mounts, springs, etc. from SNG Barratt a week ago. The mounts are special order so I do not have them yet. After the various discounts, the price was much less than OEM.

PartsGeek in the States sells aftermarket (pattern?) units for $108 each, but they only stay in stock for a very short time as you might guess.

My car is in pieces waiting for the top mounts, I keep checking PartsGeek and they weren't even listed any more yesterday so I gave up. I do use SNG Barratt as they're fast and it's so easy to order the parts but they're very dear especially once tax and delivery is added, and like everyone else seems to be they're out of stock of the pattern parts.
If you could let me know how I could get the 'various discounts' I'd be very grateful.
My cars a keeper and I like the idea that the polyurethane won't deteriorate. As for difficulty, I've changed all the ball joints and suspension (inc subframe) bushes armed with a 6 ton press, a blowtorch and a big hammer (for the front lower joints) and haven't had any problems so I'm sure I'll manage.

William from Barratt is a forum member and should be along soon to reply. (He was on holiday this week.) Mentioning the Jag forum will get you an easy 10%, but with the right order they can better that amount. Shipping in the US is included if the order is large enough. Do not know about the UK.

I gave up on PartsGeek as well. When they took them off their site, the only answer they gave me when I asked if they were discontinued was, "we have removed them from our website." Thanks Captain Obvious.

XKRacer, How many miles did you have on these for them to be in that condition?

Thanks!

Those pics are from the New Jersey XK I am doing...... I will check the mileage and let you know but it is not that high......

I am shocked with the condition of the rubber and plastics on this car, I never understood why all you Americans complained so much about these materials until I experienced them...... I will do a write up on this car and give my views then

Bill,

If possible please email me your requirements and I shall have one of my UK colleagues quote the items for you (JF member discount included). The mounts MJA2170BD* (aftermarket) you refer to are in stock in our UK branch and 'retail' at 75 pounds.

Kind Regards

I picked mine up from Terry's Jaguar Parts for $193.95 ea. $401.55 for the pair shipped from Mi. to Ga., in the old USA. They were available and in stock, genuine Jaguar part #MJA2170BD. Thought the price to be very fair after shopping the alternatives.
