Perhaps Several Related Items – Idle and Emission Code?
2004 XK8 Convertible
This all started after I replaced the Air Intake Filter with a new Jaguar Part. There were no issues prior to that.
I started to get the PO442 Evaporative Emission Control SystemLeak Detected (small leak).
At the same time the idle started problems. On startup when the engine is cold, the idle speed starts at about 1500 RPM and after about 2 minutes slowly in steps it drops back to 600 RPM. If started warm the idle is at the normal 600.
I checked first for any clamps or connections I may not have reseated correctly when I changed the filter, I also purchased a new gas cap.Yesterday I ran the procedure I found on the forum for resetting the idle speed but still am having the same problem. I have not gotten into the rear end canister hoses and valves yet as it started with the air filter change. If no one has any ideas what could be wrong than I will get into the rear end canister system.

Something was moved, probably causing a vacuum leak. Check the hose coming off the intake tubing to the engine. Sometimes it looks secure, but mine had an O ring on it, and when I pushed it back into the valve cover, it fell inside. If your emission control is similar to mine, this is what I found.....Mike
