Petrol tank pressure
Hi Guys
I have an issue with my 1999 xkr. When I fill up with petrol ,most times when I remove the filler cap. there is a sudden out rush of air really quite forceful.I have to remove it slowly or I think it would blow the cap out of my hand.It seems worse when I have been on a long run and on a hot day.It hasnt always done it but takes me by suprise when I take the cap off.Is there a breaher hole in the fuel system somewhere that could be blocked?

The system should vent through a charcoal canister and is plumbed to the intake manifold through a valve. When driving the valve will periodically open to pull the fumes out of the canister and this also lowers the pressure in the tank to prevent what you are experiencing.
You might have a problem with the vapor recovery system or the canister close valve (CCV). These should give you some kind of code and potentially a check engine light. Have you checked if the ECU has logged any error codes?
