Default Please help ... P1722 and P1643 codes

Have a '99 XK8, and it is giving me the royal run-around ... have the ABS and STABILITY CONTROL FAIL warnings (been there for months), but recently it started giving rough upshiift 1-2. I found that the corrugated duct from the Mass Air Sensor to the Throttle body was cracked, so executed a 'temporary repair' by wrapping it in duct tape. Hoping for improved upshifts, took it for a test drive, but got GEABOX FAULT and limp-home .. not what I expected ... removed duct tape, and we're back to rough upshift, but no G/F. repeated the duct tape 'fix' ... GB FAULT again .. removed it and back to where we started .. pulled codes and have P1722 and P1643.

I have a horrible feeling that if I take it into Jaguar, they're gonna want me to replace the ECU, TCU, transmission and heaven knows what else ... is there anyone out there who has seen this, or can help me diagnose the real fault ???

Thanks, Chris

Strange . . . cracked bellows should produce P0171 - P0174 for a lean condition. Taping the bellows should have nothing to do with the CAN token code and the stall speed codes. Incidentally, using black electrical tape makes a much more attractive 'temp' repair than duct tape. A cleaned duct and warm tape will make an almost invisible repair. Drove a Volvo for more than 50k miles with that temp repair.

Here is a link with a little information on the stall speed: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...33/#post823928

The failed A drum is bad news.

The CAN token could be an art affect of the stall speed or an electrical connection issue.

Self amalgamating tape may be a good way to go as a more permanent repair, the kind used to seal antenna's ( aerials ) or satellite connections. If applied correctly it bonds to itself and is very difficult to remove.
