Default positive good season coming to an end

Hi all

99 xk8 convert
Had a really good spring summer fall
Car worked really well
A positive post !!!!
Did tran fluid coolant hoses
Put more miles on her this year than the last couple
got an ultra guage ( great investment)
Wow is all I can say
had a fuel leak early in the spring but that was it !!!
So in the sea of issues just wanted to say it can happen
A good season but its time almost to put away
Had her rust checked and I go to work soon and when I get back it will be the salty season on the roads
may get another run
anywhooo just a good season
you will hear from me next summer for sure (haha)

Good to hear from the silent majority whose cars are working as they should.

Many of us, who regularly perform PM, and/or otherwise tinker with our cars, have experienced long stretches of trouble-free performance.

Reading about other members and their car problems on this Forum, I am convinced that the XK8 has a distinct group of identifiable problem areas which are based on design flaws or premature wear items. These categories are repeated over and over in member's posts. Once those problems have been addressed, usually with superior aftermarket pieces, the rest of the cars works w/o incident.

My brother up in Michigan has a very nice '99 convertible. He knows cars and used to work on them extensively. But today, he no longer does he own big repairs and is what I call a knowledgeable enthusiast driver. But his experience with the Jag is one where he is always chasing the problems, never attacking them.

If he would do a little more reading, get involved and root around the car; I think he would be replacing these known problem items ahead of time. Furthermore, I think his ownership experience would be much improved. Of course, then I would lose the future opportunity to buy another pristine Jag XK8 at his fire-sale price when he reaches the frustration melt-down phase. ;-)

Excellent points, Gordo. I experienced the same routine with our S-Type, now approaching four years in our stable of vehicles. Once you sort the known issues out, you can go for many miles and months with no problems. But getting to that state can be a major hassle frought with numerous frustrations, no question about it....
