Is it possible to bypass or hotwire the passanger seat ABS weight sensor
The weight sensor in my passanger's seat appears to not work. When an adult is sitting in it the airbag light is always out but when no passanger (or a child) is sitting in the passanger seat the passanger ABS light is sometimes on, sometimes off and flickers on and off. There is are no warnings or codes, I think the computer just at times thinks there is someone sitting there when there isn't. this si likely due to a bad switch
I would like to either hotwire the switch off permanatly (seat empty) or bypass it with a toggle switch so I have positive control. I think airbags in general hurt people more than they help and I would have no problem with it being "always off". Aditionally I sometimes travel with an 11-year old in the passanger seat and don't want the airbag going off with him riding because the computer thinks there is an adult there. Frankly given the choice I would have it off for my 14 year old as well (although she is heavy enough to activate the airbag when it is working).
