Default Posting pics of my new '97 XK8

I

I bought this one from a guy in rust-free Arizona. 63K miles; near perfect interior and top. Body straight and clean. The car has a front wheel wobble. Probably the control rod bushings. I won't know for sure until I get under and pull some parts. Nikasil aspect seems to be OK. Didn't get a chance to do a comp test, but I checked intake plumbing, etc. and no oil pooling. Total cost: $13,700 plus $800 to ship from AZ to FL. In transit now. Happy camper here. Gordo

Sweet! And the car looks like it was manufactured yesterday. I don't see many white XK's here in the northeast. Enjoy your ride.

Are those Factory floor mats?

Default Door Mats

The mats appear to be OEM. The color and material of mats and carpet are the same; and the embroided logos look like something only the factory would produce. gordo

Looks really familiar ?
My 97is white w/tan also.
Good looking cars. I get lots of compliments, most people think it's newer than it is.
My wife says the white is a cleaner looking car. I love mine.

Get the tires off the ground and push/pull at 12 and 6 o'clock (lots of play is wheel bearings). I've been quoted 500 per axleor 325 per wheel inc parts. Will need abs tool and hyd press to do yourself (if you want to attempt)..... or could be just the tires out of balance.

Enjoy your new ride.

When it gets here on Tuesday, I get it up and have a better look see. I usually do most of my own mechanical work. If it is wheel bearings, is their an ABS tool rental source?

FJT: I'm in Ormond Beach are you nearby? gordo

Indeed. The FL part of the regional forum is popular. Maybe post up in there. We need to get a meet going. I would be willing to bring scan tool and checkout everyones car if we can get it together. Possibly even do some software updates. We will see.

Gordo, saw your post about the 'wobble' on the roadfly forum last week; I was wondering when you were going to drop by and let us know how the car purchase/drive was going. Glad you got it home and sounds like a small problem before you are driving around with the top down.

Hi Matt. The car is still in transit from AZ. It will arrive FL on Wednesday. Naturally, I did not want to drive it back with that type of problem. I think it is just control arm bushings, but I will know better when I get underneath, take off some parts, and perform thediagnostics. Pics are from my friends house in Scottsdale. I did drive it a little bit, but with the shimmy, it just wasn't fun. Thanks again for your help and I will keep everyone here posted on progress as I go through the car's systems. Gordo.

Default Shimmy was caused by unbalanced tires

Just wanted to followup on the post. After getting the Jag up on jackstands, I could see the right front tire was worn on the inside edge. However, the bushings and bearings seem OK. Thereis the very slightest movement in the drivers side upper bushing whichI will replace in a few weeks. AFter balancing the tires, and cleaning up the suspension pieces, I took her out for a drive. Everything is nearly smooth as silk. What a nice driver.I am so glad I got this car! Picture this, 80 degrees, sunny, cool breeze driving top down along the Atlantic Ocean in my new XK8. Doesnt get much nicer than that>>>. Gordo

Yup.
I know what you mean.
Cool spring nights under a Texas sky, cruising through the hillcountry.
Enjoy.... I do.

A fantastic example, looks like its in really nice condition. The one I have been getting a case ofbuyers remorse over. (See my nervous rants)

What reallythoughis striking is how well some of these early XK8 examples have been so wellpreserved and cared for! My almost 10 year old car looks like its not more then a year or two old.... Condition and low miles on mine besides the lure of the Cats looksseemed a no brainer.

They put good paint on them, and the people that bought them new were very **** about keeping them clean. Goes to show that a weekly wash and proper dry and tri monthly wax will do for you.

Default Installing new "tyres"

Decided to dump the Dunlops (255x55-17s) for a set of Michelin Pilot Sports A/S in the OEM size 245x50-17. The Dunlops were out-of-round on two (2) wheels and the third was excessively worn on inside edge. I never did like Dunlops. No offense to those who have them now, but my last two sets were on cars purchased used, and both sets were in horrible shape when I got them. Cupped, out of round, broken tread, etc. Tire rack is the source. gordo

PS. luvmyk9 If you are gun shy about driving up to Cape Canaveral this summer; rest assured you will have a Jag Garage here in Ormond Beach to fix anything that might break on the way up. So now you only have to drive half the distance w/o a breakdown!
