1997 Xk8 X100 4litre Convertible
My car was fitted with power fold mirrors as an extra.
I wish to carry out the 'retro key fob /retract mirror mod' and thus identify the 'red' wire, does this wire 'short' to earth/ground? Are the wires in the door switch pack replicated in the red wire harness? (The red's all look brown under the steering wheel!) - Any pictures?

What is this 'retro key fob /retract mirror mod' you are talking about? The connections are all in the Driver Door Module and Driver/Passenger Seat Modules - so maybe the red wire you are looking for is under the seats? Are you planning to power the fold back motors directly?

 

The red wire reference to remote powerfolding mirrors looks to be thinking of the arrangements in the X Type, but the two cars are totally different and and require two very different approaches to achieve the aim of remote powerfolding. While the X type is quite simple to modify, the X100 is not so! It requires two custom designed and built modules - one for each mirror. Each module then has eight wires that require to be spliced into the existing wiring harness in each door.
A further requirement is for the car to have the Double Lock system that (I believe) is not fitted to US models, although if the automatic locking on gear selection were to be disabled it might be feasible
