Power steering leak, common problem?
Have to take my 2002 xk8 in for a power steering leak and wondered if this is a common problem. We tried to replace two gaskets but it didn't work and of course you can't just buy the problem hose, it seems it requires a whole new 218.00 assembly.
Phil,
Several months ago I developed a leak in the steering rack, bought a rebuilt unit and had it installed. It gushed fluid within five minutes of installation, and this happened 2 more times before we got one installed that didn't leak. Really pissed me off!

Search the forum for this...if it is leaking on the passenger side (US models) under the air filter box area, there is an inexpensive, do it yourself, reliable fix. I'm going on 2 years with zero leaks since I fixed mine. It involves cutting the fitting end off and using a barbed brass fitting in the hose end and a short rubber hose to the brass fitting and the other end of that sliding over the cut tube with clamps. There are photos and a write up on the forum somewhere.
