Pre purchase opinion and advice needed
The slight signs of abrasion on the high points at the elbows is quite common. The much larger area is well down in such a position it cannot possibly have been caused by any engine movement. Much more likely human intervention.
Or maybe an act of GOD (Grease on Original Design)
Make sure the supercharger coolant pump is
working. The supercharger has its own coolant system. It does connect to the engine coolant system, but doesn’t do much to circulate the supercharger coolant. This electric pump runs all the time when the ignition is on so it has a hard life. Without the pump the supercharger coolant will overheat going up long steep grades and the car will go into Restricted Performance Mode and you will have to clear with a OBDII meter.
Open the hood and turn the ignition on (do not start car) and listen for the pump humming. The pump is
on the right front of engine and below the air filter housing.

The Hydras are 18s and they clear the Brembos. They are about the only 18" factory wheel that can do this. I have them on my 04' XKR with Brembos. However, it is weird seeing an 05' with anything less than BBS 20" wheel.

The seller of a wonderful 2002 XK8, one owner only, 48k miles, platinum with champagne interior, agreed to have the car inspected from my Jaguar dealer who is also a friend.
At the end, my friend gave me a full report about the car and basically said: "When you find a car like this you just have to buy it. Do it, and we will prepare it for you, making all the necessary mantainance.
If in the meantime you find a better car, feel free to purchase it , as I will be happy to keep this car". Making a long story short after two days of negotiation I found an agreement with the owner and just bought it.
Wednesday the 20th I wil have it delivered and we start to work on it.
I am still considering the XKR, but while I am waiting for the quotes to fix it, I am more and more falling in love with this car.
She already has a name: Margaret.
Wednesday I will post the pics!

The marks on the intake are also indicative of sagging or swollen hood liner. My ‘02 XKR has them despite the engine showing zero engine movement and the liner up tight against the hood. The intercooler hoses were also being abraded by the liner, which I reported on the forum about three years ago . I tried clocking the hose(s) away from the liner, but still had zero clearance.
I ended up removing the liner and have observed no drawbacks from doing so. Three years later the hood paint is still in perfect condition and no noticeable increase in engine noise inside the car.

PS. When this issue first came up 3 years ago I did a forum search which revealed that others have had the same abrasion issue despite having good motor mounts. A few people just cut out the parts of the liner that were abrading the hoses or the intercooler. I didn’t want to cut up an otherwise perfect hood liner so I just removed it. I wasn’t concerned with the paint being damaged as I’ve had numerous cars that had no liner ever, and they still had perfect hood paint after decades of use.
The next owner can decide whether to use it, or not.
