Default Preventative Maintenance

I have a 2002 XKR with under 40k miles. I'm getting ready to replace the timming chain tensioners. While I'm there is there anything else I should look for or replace?

This winter, I plan on flushing the transmission. Is there any other maintenance I should consider? From reading this forum, I believe that these two items should be my first priorities but I'd like to know what the forum experts have to recommend. Thanks,

Mark

With the tensioners it's nice that you're taking the valve covers off anyways, as you put on new gaskets (and if you tighten correctly per spec), then you address leaks that sometimes develop on that area. Also make sure you get spark plug seals or that they're included in the valve cover gasket set.

While you're in there you can also change the thermostat pretty easily, and gap and install new plugs. I also threw on new belts while at it, both the main accessory and SC belt. Might as well also climb underneath and change the fuel filter, and oil & filter while at it.

Other than that, as a bit of a newish owner of an 02 xkr myself, the car runs great.

There is absolutely no need to replace the gaskets. unless they were already leaking, cracked, or if you damaged them yourself.

just clean them properly, inspect them and reuse them. don't overthigten the bolts and everything should be fine.

in addition, spray the door rubbers with silicon spray, replace the differential oil etc.

I guess everyone has their own way of doing things. I always order in a new gasket set since they're such a relatively low cost item compared to the rest of the job. I was glad I did when I did my tensioners last month, as my old gaskets were burned, brittle rubber. Considering "preventive maintenance" also, I think they're worth a change .

Given the propensity of the spark plug hole gaskets to cause misfires if they leak, I think new gaskets is a wise preventative measure for a 10 year old car. An aftermarket full set is only about $35.
