Default primary tensioners

Hi all,

Just a shout out to the guru's. I am doing the primary tensioners on my 02 xkr and found that the old tensioners are made out of plastic and they have a plate between them and the block. My question is does this plate go back on with the updated steel tensioners? It looks to me as though the new ones would require omiting the plates, due to their new shape and thickness. Does anyone have an answer for me?

Thanks in advance

Brian

The new metal primaries are complete the way they are. Do not put the plates back on with the new tensioners.

and make sure to use the shorter bolts, the new tensioners are shorter too, and you risk pulling thread or snapping off the bolt when it bottoms out. Worse yet(is there a worse?) the tensioner doesnt seat and you loose oil pressure in the tensioner and jump the chains and bend the valves

I have a question with regards to "the timing chain tension problem". I have a 2001 XK8 with 57,000 miles on it. I read that the tensioners need to be changed, but does that mean just the top tensioners as above on this post, OR do you also have to replace the lower much larger tensioners??? which is much more complex and expensive. can i get away with just changing the top tensioners as the above post??
Many thanks for your help,

The lower tensioners are actually smaller and yes you really need to change the lot

The lower tensioner is actually the primary and the upper tensioner is the secondary
