Priming oil system after rebuild
Greetings!
I am near the point in my 2000 XKR engine rebuild where I am thinking about the eventual first startup. Since I have the engine on a stand, I could rig the starter to spin it up outside the car, even before I mount the SC and intakes.
With a completely empty oil system and just assembly lube on the spinny bits, it concerns me that there would be some time before any oil gets to the bearings and such. So, my question is about filling the sump, mounting the starter and giving it a whirl to get some oil in the galleys.
Has anyone done this prior to finishing assembly and dropping the engine in the car?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I usually wait until I put the engine in the car, because there is nothing you will hear on the stand, that you won't find, by simply turning it over with a bar. As a matter of fact, you might learn more, by manually turning her over, and save some valves, or hear scraping in the bottom end. Once it is in the car, make sure she won't fire and spin her, with the starter, for a few seconds after the oil light goes out. That should have pressurized everything....My 2 cents......Mike
Thanks for the replies.
I will exercise some patience and wait until it is in the car.
Just finished installing the timing chains and completing the tensioners. It is nice to see all the empty bags and parts containers as I get closer to completing assembly.
Thanks again!
