Default Purchase advise

I am considering the purchase of a 2005 XK8 convertible with 45,000 miles and am wondering if I should be concerned with the same issues of the earlier v8s such as timing chain tensioners or tranny repairs. I have a 99 xj8L with 40,000 miles and am familiar with early timing chain tensioner issues and nikilsil lining issues. Thanks Jim

No engine issues with the 05 model. The only major issue that is with all the models is the hydraulic line leak at the top latch.

Default XK8 conv

Lew, Thanks for the reply. Any idea how much to fix this if repair is necessary?

Eventually it will be necessary. You have to remove a lot of the interior to replace the lines. While that may appear daunting it really is only a number of simple things. Just takes time and that is why the dealers get $1200 - $1300 for the labor and parts. The two lines are only about $200 of that.

There are a couple private efforts underway to spec out much greater capability in replacement hoses. Check with Gus on his web site. http://www.gusglikas.com/autorepair.htm
