Default Purge Valve Testing for P0455

After numerous (failed) attempts to rid my 01 XK8 of the P0455 code and finding cracked hoses and dirty CCV, I thought it was time to bite the bullet and focus on the Purge Valve in the left front wheel well.

After removing the old one I was about to bench test it with an external 12 volts from a test battery. I ohmed out the coil first to 32 ohms and noticed before putting the juice to it that there is a hard to see "+" etched into the bottom of the connector. Ive attached a picture for those who wish to save themselves the potential of reverse polarizing an external 12 volts which blows and shorts an internal diode rendering the valve destroyed forever even if it was possibly good.

Mine removed from the car was a LJG1515AA and was replaced with the new & improved LJG1515BB that requires the addition of a length of thin walled 1/4 ID tubing and a fuel type filter. The Tech bulletin is on this forum in many places.

My old valve was leaking open which warranted replacement anyway. Got the new one from Jaguarparts for $85 online.

Have not seen another P0455 after running two tanks of fues through it. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Happy New Year 2013 everyone !!

Good advice which I missed in my previous searches of this forum. Mine is shorted, so I need to replace it now regardless.

I may very well have blown the diode when I "tested" it as I did not see the "+" sign until I had it on the bench and I had already applied 12v.

I have been trying to test the purge valve. It is not leaking with power off (tried blowing through the ports). However, nothing is happening if I apply 12V across the terminals. It pulls about 0.3 amps when I apply 12V. When I previously tried testing, I didn't notice the + indicator, so I may have hooked it up backwards on the original LJG1515AA and on the previous replacement LJG1515BB. However, I just received a another new LJG1515BB today from Harper Jaguar which I can't get to actuate. Any tricks? Did I get a bad part?

BTW, I also have a P0455 which I'm trying to track down. The CCV is working and I haven't found any leaks around the CCV doing a smoke test with the CCV open or closed. I thought it might be related to the purge valve since it doesn't appear to actuate.
