I am getting no answer from the Jaguar dealer so I'm hoping one of you can answer a few questions about the
vcats and programming modules. I noticed on the drivers side door post a sticker that says S819/S471 re-flash
and a date of 21/09/99. I also noticed when I was looking for the vcats that one was changed. The number for the
ECM was changed from LJA1410AK/012 to LJA1410HC. Is there suppose to be more numbers after the HC? I'm
assuming that the re-flash refers to the reprogramming of the ECM? The car was running great when I parked it but
decided to buy a spare ECM that matched my cars MY, range of VIN numbers and was compatible according to the
parts list. Would I be able to get my new ECM reprogrammed for my car or are these 2 different things? Is the ECM
a plug and play module? Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm still learning about electronics in cars and the dealer
that did all the work on the car from 1996 until 2013 won't give me the time of day.

 

Been a LONG time since I did this service action but I believe the /012 remains the SUFFIX but the part number changed because of the 'reflash'.
The Service Action was likely superseded by other Service Actions in later years.
Sometimes we got a TSB advising 'reflash' even if a previous software version was installed.
S479 superseded S819/S471. See also S831

Thanks for your help. I have not found any other stickers on the car so I don't know if any other reprogramming or modifications have been done.
Now I'm wondering if the spare ECM I bought will work on my car. I see from the links you kindly provided that service action S479 superseded
S819 and S471 and I'm thinking that others have probably replaced that one. If I send my spare ECM to a Jaguar dealer can they reprogram it
for my car or do I need to send the ECM from my car to be cloned? I read in the second link you sent about the redundant E.G.R. pipe that if the
E.R.G. pipe was removed and the ECM was re-flashed to S471 no other re-flash was necessary. I haven't checked to see if the pipe has been
removed yet as it's -16 this morning and I'm hoping it warms up a little before I start crawling around the car. Is there a data base that I can enter
my VIN in to see what modifications/reprogramming has been done to the car? Sorry to be a bother but I have a couple months off work now for
the winter and I'm trying to learn as much about my new toy as I can. Also Merry Christmas and best wishes to you and yours for the new year.

 

The dealer can look up your car via VIN and tell you of all the RECALLS and SERVICE ACTIONS that have been performed or any outstanding that need to be complied with.

The car will ALWAYS need to be present for ALL software and configuration changes. (individual modules are of no use to a dealer)
Modules NEED to be connected to the network of the car they are configured to. (dealers do not 'CLONE')

Fantastic. Thanks for clearing this up for me. I'm really loving the car and I want to keep it running
and looking as good as I can. I don't mind throwing the bucks into it for what she needs. I guess I'll
be driving down to Vancouver in the spring to get some modules programmed. Any excuse for an
1100 mile trip in the car is a good one.
