Question re: VVT codes (P1384 & 1396)
I just had my CEL come on and found 4 stored codes on my 1999 XK8 with 117k miles:
1) P1384
Variable valve timing
Solenoid A circuit
2) P100
OBD system readiness
Test not complete
3) P1384
Variable valve timing
Solenoid A circuit
4) P1396
Variable valve timing
Solenoid B circuit
The car runs great, though it might be a little rough at idle (or that just might be my imagination!)
I researched the codes and the consensus seems to be to try doing an oil change to 10W40, which I intend to try.
However, I'm planning to leave on an 800-1,000mile trip and wondering if driving the car as-is would likely cause any problems (since I really don't have time to change the oil)?
Also, I'm curious why the "VVT solenoid A" shows up as stored code #1 & #3 but "VVT solenoid B" only shows up at #4.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
