Default Radiator leak-XK8

My Xk8 has a very slow leak at the top right where the small round black fastener secures the radiator to its mount. My local radio tor shop has pumped up the system & found it. Has anyone out there replaced the radiator?

Yes, we have replaced the radiator. A simple ordeal on the XK8.

Remove the plastic cover above the radiator. It is held in place by 5 or 6 Torx bolts. Disconnect the fan wiring harness on the left side of the fan shroud. Crawl under the car and separate the refrigerant pipe from the fan shroud. Unbolt the fan shroud and lift it up off and out. Then disconnect the radiator hoses and let it drain. (There is a drain plug on the lower right side of the radiator if you want to try that. You will need a large flathead screwdriver). Then disconnect the transmission cooler, and oil cooler hoses (if fitted), then unbolt the Torx bolts that secure the radiator to the air condenser. You can now remove the radiator. It will want to catch on the a/c refrigerant pipes. Be careful not to break that.

Installation is the reverse. I recommend also replacing the water pump, thermostat, and thermostat housing if it is plastic. There's a metal replacement available.

The new radiator will likely come with an open nipple on top of the side tank on the driver side. This is for the extra bleed line for the '97/'98 MY. This line was later removed by Jaguar. Be ready to cap this. Parts store typically carry pre-packaged assortments of these plugs.

Best of luck, keep us posted.
