Radio/CD will not stop
Suddenly, without any assistance from me(rewiring, pulling modules, etc.), the radio/CD/tape player on my '06 XK8 has continued to function after I turn off the ignition switch, and pull the key. Occasionally it will shutdown only to restart about 5-10 sec. later. I can turn it off with the On/Off/volume knob, but only then.
Is there a module that activates to shutdown the radio when the ignition is turned of? I cannot find any other lights gauges or items that still function after the ignition if off.

It's either an internal fault with the radio, or a short circuit in the wiring to the radio. The radio has a permanent power source and an ignition-switched one, which is what turns it on. You'll need to remove the radio in order to establish which of those options it is.
Thx. I was hoping not to have to pull the radio. It looks like more 'fun' than I want to engage in right now. I may continue to turn it off/on. I have a GPS/backup camera installed that I was unable to tie to a switched power source. Needs to be turned on/off on each drive. Maybe I will instal and "Start/Stop" checklist to run thru?
Just a thought, and forgive me if it was one of your helpful tips, I remember seeing something about the ignition key cover, or something like that, sticking and causing components to keep running. I guess it's a possibility since it started all of a sudden like
Sam if you have a defective ignition switch, anything in the car that's ignition or accessory switched would turn on with keys out. These cars are full of surprises but there's no way it could only power the radio.

What John said... I would check and see if there are other less obvious components that remain on with key out... My next suggestion is going to sound crazy.
I used to get some weird radio behavior after hard rains. What was happening was the speaker wires that run into the doors was carrying 12volts back to the stereo from maybe the light or the window module. Basically a small puddle of water was forming in the bottom of the large screw in/on plastic door connection. In the door jam,,, I think it's called the A pillar... When I opened the connector,,, it was all kinds of corroded in there. Some electrical connection cleaner, a tooth brush and some self vulcanizing tape (to seal it back up) did the trick.

JX3,
I can believe the water story. Anything can happen with these cars.
I have narrowed my radio problem down to my ig.switch. Wiggling the switch cases the radio to come off and on. I lubed and added dry graphite to the switch. The problem is a little better. Maybe with more use??

Remarkable that I somehow knew your thoughts? Some say I am psychic. My wife says psychotic.uld be inds will keep watching.
Can the ignition key cylinder be removed. Many U.S. cars had a small hole that a paper clip could be inserted into, allowing the cylinder to slide out for cleaning/lube. Too easy for Jag??

That helps some. I thought that adding some dry graphite might solve the problem, but when overnight the battery was fully depleted. I thought I had the radio off, but it must be draining from somewhere.
Have the battery charger on now.

I have taken the car to the local Jag dealer. Had several other problems for them to check. They found the battery to be deficient, and think this might be part of the problem. After a replacement, they will reevaluate the radio problem. I hope it is that simple.
I think it's unlikely to be anything to do with the battery. The stereo is not triggered or controlled in any way by any of the in car computer modules that are so affected by battery voltage. It's a fairly bog-standard head unit. I'm sure the dealer would have checked this out on the wiring diagram (I'm lying, I think it's very doubtful). They'll just keep swapping parts until they find a cure.
I had thought the battery was new when I bought the car( the Used dealer said it was. If you can't believe a Used Car dealer, who can you believe?? A politician???). I told the dealer to go ahead and change the battery to see what that cleared up. Supposedly several items. Now to see if the radio still stays on. I hope the switch/ignition barrel dose not have to be changed.
