radio wiring
hi all;
I have a 98 convertible with the harmon kardon system. A while ago, the radio stopped making sound. Everything seems to work, but no static, nothing. i have since replaced the amp and the head unit. All the connections seem good. Still no sound. The only thing left is the radio wiring harness and they're unavailable new. Has anyone had this situation and found the wiring bad? Annoying thing is, if I give up and install a aftermarket head unit, they usually ask you to splice into factory wiring. Anybody? Thanx, Don.

Rumm5,
when you say "radio" this excludes the CD changer. So, it points me to a common problem, the "B" level of stored FM stations has been selected, but nothing is stored in the memory slots so = no sound through radio.
This B level (I forget the proper name) is designed to auto search for the 9 strongest stations in whatever area you are in and store them.
Going from memory, I think you press "0" to switch between normal FM and the one I described.
Hope this is it, easy common fix. If by radio you meant head unit, just tell us for a list of other questions to help diagnose.
edit: if I'm wrong about 0, look by the number input pad, its gotta say something somewhere. I'll look at my 1998 next time I'm. In it.

Yes just looked. Under 0 are "A Mem".
press 0 to toggle between aforementioned automatic memory screen and normal FM. Normal stations display "P93.5"; stations on auto screeen will display "A93.5".
When auto FM is selected, hold zero button down for a second to auto program 9 strongest stations.

Hi all;
I tried the fm. No change. While I was tracking the wiring looking for clues, I saw there was a white plug hanging near the amp. Why I didn,t see it before, I don,t know, maybe I thought it was unused accessory plug. I tried the plug and it fit. Turned on radio. Sound! There was the broken connection. Dumb! Good news, now I can upgrade my speakers.

Nice job!!!! Glad you found it.
FYI re speaker upgrade - don't overlook the cheap (POS) supertweeter in the door sail. I pulled a midrange tweeter pod from a pair of 6 x 9 Infinity 3 way speakers and mounted it in that position. Wow huge improvement.
