Radio works, but no sound!
Just bought a 1999 xk8 convertible tuesday. The radio head unit works great but there is no sound coming out of the speakers. I have thought that it is the amp malfunctioning in the trunk but how do i know for sure?
First, check to see if you have an amp. Only the cars with "premium audio" had amps. If you have one it will be above the CD changer, hidden behind the carpet covered cardboard-like liner. It's very flexible, just grab the top, pull it down, and see if there's an amp back there.
Yes i have the premium sound and i have located the amp in the trunk. The wires running to the speakers out of the amp were all screwed up touching eachother going into the plug. I took it apart amnd fixed all the wires and checked all fuses. All fuses were still good and i have removed the amp. The only thing now is i need to figure out how to test the amp. If it was a normal after market amp i could test it easily, but this one just has to plugs instead of the regular "power, ground, remote, speaker +-" Any ideas how to test it? Also does anyone have a wire diagram of the plugs that plug into it so i can see if i have power? Thanks
I beleive '99 still had the Harmon Kardon Amp, in 2000 it changed to Alpine.
Shane, B+ is on the white 12 pin connector, pins 5 and 12 (brown/green wires). Ground is on the same connector, pins 4 and 11 (black wires).
I see no ignition switched power, so I suspect it is controlled by some on/off signal or datalink form the headunit.
You should consider downloading the JTIS CD (see the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum)...it has all the service info plus wiring diagrams.

[QUOTE=shanex25;415236]Sì, ho l'audio premium e ho posizionato l'amplificatore nel bagagliaio. I fili che andavano agli altoparlanti fuori dall'amplificatore erano tutti incasinati, toccandosi l'un l'altro mentre entravano nella spina. L'ho smontato, ho riparato tutti i cavi e controllato tutti i fusibili. Tutti i fusibili erano ancora buoni e ho rimosso l'amplificatore. Grazie[/QUOTE
