Default Rear Bumper types? Won't line up!

Are all rear bumpers for the X100 the same?

Having had all the snotty bits sorted out on my car, upon re-fitting the rear bumper, the bloody thing will NOT line up properly. The front edge just comes up short of the rear of the wheel arch, it's like it is a good inch too short each side. I can't remember if it's always been like that, and to be honest it doesn't really bother me, it's just not something I'd notice.

It bothers my body shop guy though, he cant believe it was made that way, surely it would all line up? He wonders if it's not the original bumper and if they are different for the coupe and convertible models. Either way, he's talking about "chopping this bit..." at which point my eyes glazed over and I told him to just hold on.

It's great he's a perfectionist and doesn't want my car to leave with something even so small not looking right, but I can't see why it doesn't just bolt on. Somebody tell me, are there different bumper variants, or do lots not quite line up after 20 odd years for whatever reason?

There are two bumper variants, 97-2004 and 2005-06. Coupe and convertible are the same and I believe that they both should line up with the wheel arch no matter what year car you have, the body panels themselves did not change across the years.

There are aftermarket options out there so it is possible.

Maybe a picture would help?

I didn't think there was a difference between coupe and convertible, thanks for confirming that. I'll get some photos next week, its bizarre that it's just that little bit short, there's no adjustment to be made either.

I have that gap on my "97. Don't know if you can see it in this pic.

That looks very much like what I'm talking about - not massive, but...well, big enough. Acceptable on a Lada, but on a Jaguar? Other people must have noticed this, surely?

That is such a low res picture, I couldn't really make out what you mean.

What condition are the bumper mounts in? They tend to fall apart over time and could be the cause of it not lining up properly.
